The Emergency Medical Responder Class (EMR)
This Emergency Medical Responder EMR course will teach you to become an entry-level medical professional who prepares patients for industrial, pre-hospital, first-responder settings. PHSA’s EMR program will provide students with the necessary hands-on skills and knowledge they need to deal with medical and trauma-related emergencies until emergency medical technicians or paramedics arrive on the scene.
Upon course completion, graduates will be eligible for continuing education towards national certification as emergency medical responders through the National Registry of EMTs. In fact, the PHSA emergency medical responder course meets and exceeds the National Standard Curriculum for Emergency Medical Responder, which was developed by the United States Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Emergency Medical Responder Class Applicant Requirements:
- 18 years of age by course completion
- No criminal convictions
- Good moral character and strong motivation to serve
- Satisfy ORC 4765-12-07 requirements (Scope of Practice)
- High School Diploma or GED
The complete EMR course time is roughly 66 hours of didactic instruction. During this time, you will take part in 28 lessons developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
